I finally was able to put this into pattern format...Hope you have a hoot of a time making this Owl purse as I did. I know my son had a ton of fun posing for the pictures!

Nerdy Owl Purse

Foundation:

With Color A Ch 41. Sc in the second Ch from hook BLO. 39 Sc in BLO, on other side of Ch row 40 Sc in FLO, join with Sl St. Add marker pin.

Round 1:

Sc around start and end at marker pin. Sk joined st Sp.

Round 2:

2 Sc in the next st, 38 Sc to other side of stitch marker, 2 Sc in the next two st,  37 Sc to the stitch marker, 2 Sc in the last st

Round 3:

2 Sc in the next 2 st,  37 Sc to other side of stitch marker, 2 Sc in the next four st, 37 Sc to the stitch marker, 2 Sc in the next 2 st.

Round 4-10:

*Sc around start and end at marker pin, repeat from * 6 times.

Round 11-42:

With Color B *Sc around start and end at marker pin, repeat from * 3  times.

With Color A *Sc around start and end at marker pin, repeat from * 3  times.

Repeat every other color 8 times.

Round 43-60:

With Color B *Sc around start and end at marker pin, repeat from * 17  times. Sl St at end.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: to change colors take hook out of loop, insert it into the next Sp to work and put the loop back on the hook. Pull Color A or B through one loop yarn over and pull through remaining loops on hook.

Purse handles (make 2)-

Foundation:

With Color C, ch 6, 1 Sc in the second ch from the hook (BLO), Sc BLO in the next 4 st, 1 Sc in the other side of the ch (FLO), Sc FLO in the the next 4 st, Sl St to join. add stitch marker inside work (the inside will be the outside).

Round 1:

Sc around (start and end at stitch marker).

Round 2:

1 Sc in the next 4 st, 2 Sc in the next st, 1 Sc in the next 5 st, 2 Sc in the next st (start and end at stitch marker).

Round 3 and on:

Turn work inside out, Sc around till length reaches 28 inches.

Attach to purse.

Owl eyes (make two)-

Foundation:

Color C, Ch 2, 6 Sc in the second Ch from the hook, Sl St to join add St marker.

Row 1:

2 Sc in the next 6 St, Sk joined Sl St

Row 2:

Color D, 2 Sc in the next St, 1 Sc in the next St repeat to stitch marker.

Row 3:

2 Sc in the next St, 1 Sc in the next 2 St repeat to stitch marker.

Row 4:

2 Sc in the next st, 1 Sc in the next 3 St repeat to stitch marker.

Row 5:

2 Sc in the next St, 1 Sc in the next 4 St repeat to stitch marker.

Note: I used a big picture of glasses to use a a template to cut out the fabric in glasses shape...I used Google image search to find the one i liked. I sewed the glasses right onto the owl eyes with a sewing machine but, you can hand stitch too.

Owl Nose:

Foundation:

Color B, Ch 8, Sc into the second Ch from the hook, 1 Sc in the next 6 St, ch 1 and turn.

Row 1:

Sc2tog, sc in the next 3 st, Sc2tog, Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2:

Sc2tog, Sc in the next st, Sc2tog, Ch 1 and turn.

Row 3:

Sc2tog, Sc in the next st, Ch 1 and turn.

Row 4:

Sc2tog.

Fasten off and attach to glasses.

Owl belly ruffles:

I had no real pattern for this part except to do a crocodile stitch in the shape of a pyramid (I did two rows of Color A & Color B, and alternated with Color C in between them). I watched a you-tube tutorial on how to do the stitch. I can't remember the exact one I watched but, here is a link to one I found when I did a Google search (By Crochet Geek):

Owl wings:

Cut 2 pieces of fleece for owl wings (width 7 inch & length 8 inches)

Note: I used rotary cutter on the fabric to add holes so, I could attach the wings to the crochet bag. I crochet  into the fabric and bag with a Sl St.

Frog Prince Purse

Row 7:

His & Her Hand towels-Wedding Gifts Part 1

One of my friends is getting married this month. Instead of buying her a gift I decided to make her a whole made gift. A bunch of ideas ran through my mind but, I thought a gift for the home would be more memorable. I decided on his and her hand towels to decorate their bathroom.

This will be a two part post, first one being the her pattern hand towel and the second the his pattern hand towel. Enjoy!

Attach bow to towel, I used some extra color A yarn to form the bow.

Going Green with Crochet Body Puffs

I have been looking for a way to start being more green. I decided to start with something simple, body puffs. Normally I would buy a body puff every one to two months as they get gross. A crochet body puff you can wash them and dry them. They instantly become brand new. You can wash them with your regular laundry once or twice a week depending on when you do your laundry (Tip: You can stick them in with your towel loads).

I did a search for patterns the other day, I found three different sizes (Medium, large and X-large). I decided to work all three up and test them out.

Medium-Shower tested and approved

The medium & large sizes worked up in little over a hour. They used from a half a ball to one ball of 2.5 ounce of Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn. I found the pattern to be easy to understand. The only thing I found that when you do the first round of the pattern, making a ring that you need to work around the hanging chain instead of just in the 3 chain ring you make. If you don't the chain is off to the side instead of in the middle of your work. However, I don't think this will matter once the puff is completed as this becomes hidden...I am a perfectionist though:) I love how both sizes came out.

I tested the medium size in the shower...I found that when you first use it that it needs to be soaked in water before it takes an body wash/soap. Once the puff is soaked it does make suds, if it is too dry the body wash/soap is absorbed. I did notice that hanging chain becomes stretched due to the weight of the water in the puff when you hang it up. I would probably double the chain next time I make one so, it is less likely to snap from use. The shape of the puff does hold up to the normal scrubbing use.

Large-I used three different color cotton yarns to give it a multicolored look.

The X-large size worked up in about three hours. The Puff used two balls of 2.5 ounces of Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn. I loved that there was a larger sizer available as I love the big puffs. I had the same size in the store bought body puff in my shower. I loved how it looked when it was finished too.

I did find that in the shower the shape didn't hold up after it was wet which was a bummer. I think it was possibly my stitching as I tend to over exaggerate my tension. I used to be very tight with my tension so, to compensate I would pull out the loop more when crocheting (It has become a habit). I also had to set the puff on the ledge of my shower instead of hanging it up as it was too heavy with water to hang it up with the chain.

X-large- I did one half of the last row a different color to give it the two tone look.

Over all these patterns are Hooking Rainbows approved.

Luck of the D Purse-Part 3

Hi all, I know a few people have been waiting for me to post this part of the Luck of the D purse! I am so glad I can help with your craft endeavors. Here are the instructions on how to add a fabric lining to a crochet purse. Enjoy!

Luck of the D Purse-Part 3  

Skill Level-Easy

What you will need:

Sewing Machine (regular thread to match your fabric)

Any color fabric (nothing too heavy or too stretchy)

Quilting thread to match your fabric

Scissors

Sewing needle

Cut out fabric (width 7 1/2 inches & length 12 inches). Pin the fabric together so, only three edges are pinned (two smaller sides and one larger side).

Sew fabric together in the pinned areas to make a pouch using the sewing machine. Fold down fabric and pin the top of the pouch (Pin two pieces of fabric separate from each other to make a opening) around. Sew around the pinned fabric (make sure your Fabric edges are sewn on the same side as you pouch edges). 

Turn purse inside out, slip pouch over purse (This puts your edges inside to be hidden), Thread needle with 1 arms length (double string) of black quilting thread (tie in a double knot). Use the Crochet lip to attach to the purse pouch.

Insert needle from inside to outside of pouch on white stitch line (do not pull all the way through, insert needle back in through the pouch and in between the ending knot of the thread). Pull ending knot to fabric and pull thread through. Do a running stitch around the crochet lip and purse pouch.

A running stitch basically looks like this:

What I did to attach the pouch and the crochet purse together is to go into the pouch and go into one stitch in the crochet bag and back out through the pouch again (all the way around).  Then I do it again over the spaces without stitching so the stitch looks more like this:

Make sure your stitching is not loose but, not too tight either (don't want it to bunch up).

(Note: do every other crochet stitch in the bag and use stitch marker to mark them. This will help when you do the second round of stitches, you would use the ones that don't have markers.)

Once done turn inside out and your done!

Luck of the D Purse-Part 2

It has been crazy around here, I swear my son is bouncing off the walls! I have had to stop every few seconds just to finish this part of the project. Anyhow hopefully without further interruptions, here is part two of this Luck of D Purse...Enjoy.

Skill Level-Easy

What you will need:

Hook Size E-4.00-3.50 mm

Worsted weight yarn-Color B

Needle to weave in ends

Scissors

Abbreviations:

Ch-Chain

Sp-Space

Sk Sp-Skip Space

St-Stitch/stitches 

Sc-Single crochet

Luck of the D Purse-Part 2

Row 1-7

Find a open 3 Sk Sp at the to of the purse, from the inside of the purse attach your color B to the outside Sp of the three St.

Sc 5 in the 3 Sk St Sp (do this 7 times, Ch 1 each time between rows). Fasten off and pull work though hole to the outside of the purse. Note: Make sure there is a long enough string to for sewing & weaving in your ends.

Go to the next open 3 sk sp.

Once all 10 Sp are completed pull the Color C tabs through the holes to the outside of the purse.

Attaching the purse to the handles:

Take your Color C tabs and insert them through the handles...do one side at a time. With your string sew them to the other side of the tab and sew to the top of the Color A 3 Sk St space (this is so the hole will not show). Once done weave in your ends. Do this for both sides.

Luck of the D-Purse-Part 1

Such a wonderful Sunday to make a purse!

I have been at a loss of what to make lately with spring coming; I just finished my nerdy owl bag for a friend (which the pattern will be up soon).

I decided to make another purse but, on Wednesday I met up with a great friend that helped me pull a ton of ideas out of my head. I expect to be in full pattern mode this spring. 

Hope you all enjoy this pattern...my inspiration for this particular pattern came from the T-Rex Dinosaur claws!

This post is going to be posted in three sections so, I can break down the project more easily.

This first section is going to be the purse pattern, the second will be the handle attaching & the third will be adding and sewing lining into the purse.

Insert hook into first Skip 3 Sp (previous or last from Round 7)  

With Color C-(do not fasten off color b)

 Pull color C yarn through first Sk 3 Sp, chain 3, 1 dc in the next 2 Sk Sp, chain 3 and skip 3 st.  * 1 dc in the next 3 Sk Sp, chain 3 and Sk 3 st. repeat from * till stitch marker.  Join with a Sl St in starting ch 3 Sp. Insert marker pin in loop and pull out hook.

Round 9:

Insert hook into first Skip 3 Sp (previous or last from Round 8)  

With Color A-(do not fasten off color C)

 Pull color A yarn through first Sk 3 Sp, chain 3, 1 dc in the next 2 Sk Sp, chain 3 and Sk 3 st.  * 1 dc in the next 3 Sk Sp, chain 3 and Sk 3 st. repeat from * till stitch marker.  Join with a Sl St in starting ch 3 Sp. Insert marker pin in loop and pull out hook.

Round 10-

Repeat round 7-9 5 times (6 of each color) (note: when you pull yarn color through the first Sk 3 Sp use the loops with marker pin)(Note: After round 9 insert hook into last St of Sk 3 Sp-This will have you going counter clockwise instead of clock wise (switch to clockwise again on round 13-continue in that pattern (3 clockwise and 3 counter clock wise) so, the loop with marker pin doesn't have to stretch each time). Should end with color A.

Section for handles to attach:

Round 1-Color A

 Dc into both Sk st front and back of bag and the following 2 sk  st front and back together. Sc around to opposite side of stitch marker , Dc into both Sk st front and back of bag and the following 2 sk  st front and back together (take pin attach to loop and thread through back of Dc’s), Sc around to stitch marker. Join with Sl st. Fasten off Color A (Leave long enough tail to weave in ends

Round 2-Color B
